Acceleration assigned when an objective predicted probability of passing Algebra I exceeded 70%.
Key findings
The constructive counterpart to the mandate failures: acceleration TARGETED by objective readiness scores produced no test harm and large gains in advanced-course progression — including for minority students at the margin. The difference between benign and harmful acceleration is whether placement follows measured readiness.
Genetic confound
Equity via measuring ability BETTER, not ignoring it — the skill-placement gradient steepened while demographic gaps conditional on skill vanished.
Replication notes
Single district; consistent with CLV's finding that acceleration of well-prepared students is benign-to-positive.
